Eigentlich war „State of expensive phone bills“ eine zutiefst melancholische, wenn auch selbstironische Ballade, von yours truly auf der Akustischen serviert. Im Proberaum fand die Band die Melodien hübsch, aber nicht dringlich genug. Während der Songtitel ein dezenter Wink zu Pearl Jam ist, kam mit dem Groove des Schlagzeugs eine Idee von Alanis Morisettes „You outta know“ ins Spiel. Und fertig war der kleine Hit, hier zu hören in der leider etwas rauschigen Fassung aus dem CVJM in Siegburg. Es existiert noch ein Mitschnitt von unserem Unplugged-Auftritt in Kerpen, der näher am ursprünglichen Entwurf klingt.
